8 Engaging stakeholders

You will need to establish a project team to develop an Open course. Consider who the stakeholders are and how you might involve them in the process. They are likely to include the following three groups:

  1. Academic subject-matter experts, learning designers and learning technologists will be key contributors to your course.
  2. Students and academic peers can provide support and guidance on the direction of the course and its likely effectiveness.
  3. Senior managers and project sponsors, as well as marketing teams, can help to resource, support and influence the making of your course.

Throughout the process, plan how you’ll involve these groups and keep them updated, and consider what you would like them to contribute.
