38 Analysing learner data

Hosting platforms can provide you with a wealth of learning analytics about how the course is performing. For example, FutureLearn can provide a range of statistics, including the following:

  • Levels of engagement with the learning content.
  • The location of your learners globally.
  • Results from end-of-course surveys.

Coursera provides less granular information than FutureLearn. However, whatever detail is available, it’s highly recommended that you monitor how learners are progressing and interacting with your course. Learning analytics data can help you identify where learners might be encountering difficulties, or where additional support is necessary. This will help you to continually improve your course. It’s worth agreeing at an early stage in the design process which metrics will provide you with the insights that you need. A regular report containing these key performance indicators can help you assess the performance of your Open course.
