5 Creating your course proposal

If you decide that you want to develop an Open course, your first step is to discuss your requirements with the team responsible for supporting digital education at your institution. They will be able to guide you through the process of developing a proposal for initiating course development. They will also highlight the information you will need to include to ensure that your proposal has the best chance of approval.

Your proposal should document your key considerations and explains how you plan to approach the project; it will ensure you are able to communicate a clear and consistent statement of intent for your Open course that you can share
with stakeholders.

To give you a sense of what information to capture, in Appendix 1: Course Proposal you can find a completed example of a Course Proposal document for a course developed at the University of Leeds (’Leeds’).
