5 The best resource we have is each other

“A good educational system should have three purposes: it should provide all who want to learn with access to available resources at any time in their lives; empower all who want to share what they know to find those who want to learn it from them; and, finally, furnish all who want to present an issue to the public with the opportunity to make their challenge known.” (Illich, 1971, 78)

The best resource we have is each other. Be mindful of this and reach out to your peers, your tutors and others who have an interest in your thinking and work.

Beyond each other, you will have access to literature and further resources including multimedia resources as well as GenAI to support your learning.

Shorter knowledge inputs will be made by module tutors or guests that aim to help you frame your inquiry and provide stimulation and learning hooks. We strongly encourage you to identify further individuals, resources and sources to further expand your horizons and link what you are learning to your professional context.

Resources can also be in different languages and cultures – that will be most relevant to the inquiries you will conduct linked to the scenarios and your personal work. Share the ones you locate and find useful with your peers. They may find them useful too.

Connecting with diverse others and their thoughts will bring new insights.

Resource utilisation in learning: Independent study with diverse resources, collaborative learning with diverse resources that stretch beyond the boundaries of the module, traditional textbook learning, resources provided by the module team, peer-to-peer learning within the module
