About the author and student consultants

Author

Dr Chrissi Nerantzi (NTF, CATE, PFHEA) is a Professor in Creative and Open Education in the School of Education and a Senior Lead of the Knowledge Equity Network. Her innovative contributions, such as cross-boundary learning and open professional development, foster collaborative, creative and inclusive education. A National Teaching Fellow, multi-award-winning educator, and prolific researcher, Chrissi integrates creativity, playfulness, and openness to inspire transformative learning experiences across disciplines and communities. She is an internationally recognised leader in creative and open education, with a career spanning roles as a  teacher, programmer, translator, academic developer, and education innovator in Greece, Slovenia, Germany, and the UK. Chrissi is a GO-GN alumna, the co-chair of the ICDE Open Education Network, the founder of the international open #creativeHE community and has co-created many OER and initiated a range of further open professional development courses, networks and communities that have been sustained over the years.

Student consultants

Zachary Farouk Chai is a Doctor of Education candidate at the School of Education, University of Leeds. His research focuses on technology-enhanced language learning (TELL), with a particular emphasis on teachers’ cognition of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL). He is also interested in the teaching of vocabulary and reading for young learners.

Maria Pavlopoulou, Language Educator of Secondary Education, Author of educational books, Co-Founder of @heromathesis and GlossaplAI and  MA Student in Digital Education in the School of Education at the University of Leeds. Maria is keen on GenAI’s and (digital) playful learning approaches’ critical introduction in language teaching and learning.

Alexandra Poradowska, Language Professional, Assessment Manager for an awarding organisation in the UK. First year postgraduate student of the MA Digital Education, in the School of Education at the University of Leeds. Alexandra is passionate about the potential benefits of artificial intelligence in foreign language teaching and learning.

Stephen Taylor, Learning Technology Lead at Regent’s University London, Lead Fellow for UK HE Microsoft institutions, Jisc Community Tech Champion, Adobe Influencer, Anthology Trailblazer and many more. Stephen is an MA Digital Education student in the School of Education at the University of Leeds. Stephen’s focus is on keeping pedagogy and playfulness at the heart of digital education.
