21 Introduction
Welcome to your guide to Broadening Blueprint for Jam. Two further blueprints will be made available for Open and Block. The Broadening initiative is part of the ambitious Curriculum Redefined programme at the University of Leeds, which aims to offer inclusive, flexible and transformative student education.
The broadening blueprints form part of reimagining the new Discovery modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students. They provide a scaffolded approach. Discovery modules enable engagement in alternative learning opportunities also associated with new Structured, Open, Unbounded, Learner-Led (SOUL) modules, currently under development.
The blueprints aim to create complementary and expansive low-stakes non-credit-bearing learning opportunities, both in current areas of interest and alternative formats that could lead to academic credits via SOUL modules. These blueprints provide a menu of non-credit-bearing course designs. Educators, students and other stakeholders are welcome to adapt the designs as necessary.
Within this document, we propose a process in which staff and students can use the included learning format of a Jam as part of the scaffold approach for the Discovery offering’s SOUL modules. This and all available blueprints may also be adapted for other learning instances within and beyond the curriculum.
