31 Planning the programme

To help you design the programme for your Jam, consider the following guidance and agree any decisions with your partners.

If your Jam will take place online, including a healthy mix of live and self-paced activities is important. You should avoid overwhelming participants and facilitators with lengthy live sessions. To maximise engagement, it’s a good idea to introduce an element of interactivity for participants.

The length of an online Jam can vary from a very intense 24-hour event to weeklong programmes with more activities. Decide with your partner(s) which format will work best for your specific needs.

You should consider the timings of live sessions if you plan to open up the Jam to learners across a variety of time zones. For example, participants may be existing students on online programmes, and may live outside the UK, as may students within partner institutions.
