38 Arranging training for facilitators
You should consider if training in facilitation would be beneficial before staging your event. For example, you may be working with colleagues and students new to the curriculum or learning design, or the topic under exploration may be new to a facilitated approach.
Use training as an opportunity to develop a package that supports all of your facilitators. Beyond the necessary resources, you should also consider running a workshop (or a series of workshops).
Establish a channel for ongoing communication, collaboration and a buddy system. This can help build relationships between more experienced facilitators and those will little or no experience in this area.
To help you reflect on your thoughts and organise your thinking, you can use the following template to plan your facilitation training. Add your content in the right-hand column of the table below. Colleagues from Organisational Development and Professional Learning can support you with guidance in this.
