59 Appendix 3: Student recruitment for Jam facilitation

Announcement: Student facilitators needed for Social Justice Jam: Spaces for Change. Could this be you?

We’re delighted to share a fantastic opportunity for a small number of students to support the Social Justice Jam: Spaces for Change event, co-facilitating with educators to design solutions for social justice.

If you are proactive, keen to make a difference and excited about the chance to collaborate with students and educators from Location 1 and Location 2, we’d love to hear from you.

Learning across borders

The Jam will use challenge-based learning to identify solutions to problems faced by local communities in Location 1 and Location 2. We’re looking for five students with an interest in sustainability to act as facilitators for the event from 10-12 June 2024.

This fast-paced, online programme focuses on social justice and change. As a facilitator, you would work with other students and educators, and help your group (up to 10 participants) respond to a scenario prepared with our two community partners: Community Organisation 1 based in Location 1, and Community Organisation 2 based in Location 2.

Your group will review existing information, coordinate ideas and produce a shared output to present back to the participants and local groups.

The student facilitator role involves the following tasks:

  • Co-facilitating a small group of up to 10 participants.
  • Supporting the Social Justice Jam team to develop and facilitate learning activities, and curate the outputs in an open-access format.
  • Attending facilitator training in advance of the Jam and a reflection session after the Jam.

Requirements: Student facilitators must be available from 10-12 June 2024 and for initial two-hour facilitator training in April/early May.

IT access: Student facilitators must have access to a laptop or desktop computer with video and audio capabilities, and have the ability to use Teams and other applications such as Padlet. A reliable internet connection is also required.

Remuneration: Payment for the facilitation and training is £150 in Amazon or Love2Shop vouchers. The Social Justice Jam: Spaces for Change is funded by the Horizons Institute.

If you are interested in this role, please use the <Hyperlink: form to submit a short expression of interest> (approximately 300 words) by 22 March 2024.

We are very much looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
