60 Appendix 4: Teams space

General

A very warm welcome to the Teams space for the Social Justice Jam: Spaces for Change event.

We are very excited to host you, and are looking forward to learning together over the next three days. We have a packed, fast-paced programme that we hope you will find inspirational. Are you ready for the ride?

Day 1: We will focus on two communities via our guest speaker contributions, and will collaborate to identify their challenges.

Day 2: We will explore the challenges further and use workshops to aid creative problem-solving (being mindful of power asymmetries).

Day 3: We will share outputs of the group- and independent work with a panel of organisers and community members, celebrating our shared learning.

You can use the Jam handbook in advance of the event. This provides access to resources that can help you in your learning journey before, during and after the Jam.

Tell us about your Jamming experience

We very much would like to encourage you to reflect during the Jam. You can do this using the Padlet. There we invite you to share your thoughts about the Jam as you experience it. For example, you may want to consider the following:

  • What did you enjoy and find useful?
  • What new things did you learn?
  • What have you learned to appreciate more?

See you soon

This channel provides an opportunity to connect with other participants during the Jam. We are looking forward to meeting you all.

You can use this space to tell us a little bit about yourself, such as why you have joined us, or what you would like to get out of the event. We also invite you to post a picture of your community with a comment that you would like to share about it.

You may even wish to organise a meet-up with fellow Jammers. However, be mindful about sharing your personal details with people you do not know well.

Finally, you can use this channel as a social space throughout the event to share something interesting that does not directly link to the Jam.

Facilitators’ Back Stage Area

Dear all,

Welcome to the Facilitators’ Back Stage Area. During the Jam, we will use this channel to communicate with each other. All conversations taking place here are hidden from participants.

It’s likely that there will be occasions when we need to support each other to resolve specific matters. If you have questions or experience difficulties, please share them in this channel so that we can support you.

Explore the ‘Resources’ channel, where you will find guidance for learners, including the Jam handbook.

Please introduce yourself and let us know how you feel about being part of the Jam. Of course, we would also love you to share things here that fill you with joy during the Jam.

Group 1 (all group channels to have the same announcement)

Hello everyone,

We are delighted you have decided to learn within a facilitated group during the Jam. The facilitators are here to help you during the three days of the event.

In order to work together as a group, please familiarise yourself with the resources provided in the Jam handbook. There you will find guidance about learning in a group, participating in reflective activities, and the FISh model that we will use in our collaborative enquiry.

To learn about opportunities for growth, you will explore a scenario within your group. This scenario is based on real-world social justice challenges in Location 1 and Location 2. You will work together in small groups to resolve a specific challenge. On Day 3 of the Jam, we will invite you to share this for consideration by the community.

The following factors will help you make the most of your group work:

  • Active participation in the Day 1 and 2 sessions.
  • The additional information presented in the scenario video.
  • Specific readings and other resources provided by the organisers.

Engaging with the Padlets

Comments wall: Here you can share your thoughts about the Jam while experiencing it. Please let others know what you are enjoying and find useful about the event. For example, this may include something new you have learned, or something you appreciate more as a result of your learning. Select the plus (+) button to add your contribution.

Photowalk: You can use this Padlet to post a picture of your community, along with a comment explaining its content. What makes this a special place for you? How do you feel about being a member of this community? Select the plus (+) button to add your contribution.

Showcase: Use this Padlet to share your individual and collaborative outputs in response to the scenario challenge. All participants of the Jam will then consider some of the solutions proposed. Examples of outputs include images, text, videos, collages, installations and other digital outputs. Please add a description about your output links to the scenario, its importance and how it may benefit the community. Select the plus (+) button to add your contribution.
