35 Recruiting and collaborating with students

Consider involving students as partners in the design and staging of your Jam. For example, this may be in the form of:

  • co-designers,
  • co-creators,
  • co-facilitators.

It’s important to provide development for students who show an interest in joining your Jam team. By doing this, they can develop their skills and capabilities, and feel both confident and supported in their role.

Students can be excellent facilitators. Consider how you will remunerate them for their participation in your Jam. Students can also help you to promote engagement with the Jam more widely. For example, they may use social media and other formats e.g. stalls at events, writing blogposts and student societies to share information about the event.

A Jam offers an opportunity for cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural learning and development that is crucial for students’ futures. Refer to Appendix 3: Student recruitment for Jam facilitation for more information.
